Good Afternoon

 

I hope you and your families are all well and keeping safe. I am writing to all members today with an update of where we are in regard to the AGM cancellation and the remembrance weekend in London.

 

AGM cancellation

 

As you will all be aware, we had to cancel the weekend at Drayton Manor due to the restrictions that were put in place. The Hotel was excellent and any monies that had been paid by members was as far as we know refunded. Their level of customer service was excellent, and I look forward to us being able to rebook with them when we can.

 

The Band also returned our payment to them less £100 deposit that we left with them so we can rebook them as soon as we are able to reconvene the AGM when social gathering is allowed.

 

London Weekend

 

We do not know at this stage what is happening re the  remembrance day parade, Bob has requested 48 tickets for the members that wish to march and our kind friends in the Buccaneer association have indicated they may be able to accommodate some of our members if needed. Bob is talking to the RBL and will keep us informed.

 

The Boat trip after the parade has been booked and the members going have paid their deposits, ( I believe we still have a few places left ) Chris Cheeseman is liaising with the Boat provider on our behalf. Again, if guidelines cause the parade to be cancelled, we will be asking for our deposit back.

 

As I am sure most of you are aware, we lost another member of the Sea Harrier World Stu “drink the fridge” Bruce. He was a great character and will be sadly missed by many. I hope we will be able to add him to our remembrance roll on our website page.

 

I like you all look forward to when we can return to normality and get together to sink a few pints and catch up. I would ask you all to try and keep in touch with the oppo’s you have in your social circle make sure they are okay and give support if required, I know many of you are already doing so via social media, and I thank you for doing so.

Update: We have heard from H Williams and he will get a sample Blazer badge to look at for us (same style as the polo shirts) He also said there 'll be no problem obtaining RED polo shirts with our logo. He is also looking at a Scalf for the Ladies .

 

 

Open Letter to the membership

 

I would like to thank the committee and membership for electing me to be the new Chairman of the Sea Harrier Association. I am deeply honoured to be asked to fill the shoes of our founder Chairman Tom Dawson, who has now stepped down.

 

I’m sure you will all want to join me in saying a big thank you to Tom, for all the hard work he has put in, getting the association up and running. I hope I can continue to keep the association flourishing, as the founder members first envisaged, with the help of the excellent committee we have in place.

 

Our Treasurer Lewy Lewis has indicated his wish to stand down before the next AGM, again I would like to thank him for all the hard work he has put in. We will now be looking for a volunteer to take over Lewy’s role, if you are interested please email Bob or Sandra so we can put it to the membership, at the next meeting.

 

Gary Neil our social secretary is looking at venues for the next AGM in Portsmouth, various venues have been suggested, but some of the venues are asking “silly” money to provide facilities. He is going to Portsmouth to check out some other venues on our behalf, and I hope we will be able to let the members know dates etc. early in the New Year.

 

It is my intention to host a committee meeting in January date to be confirmed, via a Skype conference call, so we can discuss our plans for 2019, and I know Bob has asked the committee members to send him their skype address, ready for the meeting.

I hope to share a tot with all of you, after we have had the small ceremony at the winged aviator, with the other FAA groups,  to toast absent friends, on Remembrance day after the march.

 

I look forward to seeing a lot of you in London for the weekend of the 9th-12th November, when we gather to pay our respects and “swing the lamps” over a few drinks in the UJC and other dens of iniquity that we find on our travels.
